Illusion

I took this photograph from a rocky outcropping that from many angles appears to be an island.
It was artificially constructed and sits in Vancouver’s “False Creek”.
It was designed to be reminiscent of BC’s natural coastline.
The land to which the ‘island’ is attached was itself artificially constructed a century earlier.
The photograph is of a reflection in water.
The reflected objects are buildings constructed for the 2010 Winter Olympics and swim in a sea of controversy stemming from false information, false promises, faulty loans, defaults and plenty of blame as to fault.
The irregular patterns in the photograph are reflections of the straight lines of contemporary archtecture.
The image is hung ‘sideways’ to the camera’s orientation at the time of shooting.
The photograph’s visual rhyme with BC First Nations designs was unintended.
